The Image Eye 10/30

Every week, Image publishes a bevy of creator-owned comics that our fans are eager to enjoy and the press is eager to review. We’ve got a round-up of a few reviews that caught our eye this week, plus a few panels we feel are pretty cool or representative of the comics in question, so if you’re on the fence for any of our titles, take a look at this selection of reviews and excerpts and see if anything piques your interest!

A DISTANT SOIL #42 by COLLEEN DORAN
James Anders II gives us a little history lesson on A Distant Soil in his review at Comic Bastards: "This was one of the first comics that had openly gay romantic leads, that demonstrated a manga influence (when comics simply didn’t do that), and that was 100% done (the writing, the drawing, the inking, everything) by Ms. Doran." FIVE GHOSTS #6 by FRANK J. BARBIERE, GARRY BROWN & LAUREN AFFE
Five Ghosts scored high for a lot of critics including the fine folks over at Comic Bastards, Bloody Disgusting, Newsarama, and Multiversity, just to name a few. Issue #6 is a one-shot that follows up the first 5 issue mini-series and preps us for the continuation of the now ongoing series.

PROPHET #40 by BRANDON GRAHAM, SIMON ROY, GIANNIS MILOGIANNIS, MATT SHEEAN & MALACHI WARD, cover by FAREL DARYMPLE
Oliver Davis at Flickering Myth calls this issue "Baffling, beautiful and brilliant," while Hansel Moreno declared it a "Must Read" at The Weekly Crisis.

SAGA #15 by BRIAN K. VAUGHAN & FIONA STAPLES
It's no surprise that this month's Saga garnered perfect or near-perfect scores at multiple sites including Comic Bastards, Following the Nerd, Multiversity, and IGN. Joey Caswell at All-Comic comments on the superb writing: "Although the terrific dialogue is already considered one of the defining traits of this book, the sincerity of the language used throughout issue #15 went beyond this usual expectation. Light-hearted at times, raunchy at others, and even in the more serious scenes, Brian K. Vaughan always excels at writing character voices that feel true to the individuals."

WITCHBLADE #170 by RON MARZ & LAURA BRAGA
Excited by the return of writer Ron Marz to Witchblade, John McCubbin at Imagination Centre gives this issue a 9/10, claiming this was "…an amazing issue and a brilliant jumping on point for new readers, as well as a brilliant time for old readers to rejoin the series."
