September was one of those months that really showed what makes Image Comics so talked about. You had Robert Kirkman and David Finch coming out swinging with Skinbreaker, a launch that felt like an event from page one. Meanwhile, books like Invincible Universe: Battle Beast, Transformers, and Exquisite Corpses kept proving that when the best creators in comics go all-in, readers follow. Even with heavy hitters like Spawn and G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero holding strong, it was exciting to see something brand new like Everything Dead & Dying, by Tate Brombal & Jacob Phillips, make a big impression right out of the gate. James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh’s Exquisite Corpses, Vol. 1 brought the serial killer battle royale to even more readers , while Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda’s Monstress Compendium reminded everyone why it’s one of Image’s most celebrated epics. The rest of the list showcased just how much range the lineup offers, from the family adventures of The Rocketfellers Vol 1 to the energy of Invincible, Vol. 11 (New Edition) and The Power Fantasy. And rounding things out, standout OGNs like Gracie’s Ghost and The Pizza Witch added the kind of fun, different storytelling that keeps Image readers on the edge of their seats with surprises.
