Haunting: The Work of Paul Azaceta [Gallery]

OUTCAST BY KIRKMAN & AZACETA is a horror comic you need to be paying attention to, especially if you're a fan of THE WALKING DEAD. Robert Kirkman, Paul Azaceta, Elizabeth Breitweiser, and Rus Wooton are, frankly, killing it. Kirkman's script is perfectly paced, giving us a chance to experience the horror right alongside the characters. Even the lettering is cool—Azaceta is hand-drawing a few sound effects here and there, and Wooton is doing new things with balloon shapes and emphasis that give the words a cool and more organic feel than you see in most comics. Of course, Azaceta and Breitweiser are a killer team, with Breitweiser's keen sense of color enhancing Azaceta's perfectly creepy artwork. Characters mull things over in their head, scream, and glare, and everything Breitweiser and Azaceta do on the page sells it. The action, acting, and palette are on point! The thirteenth issue arrives this week, but today? We're looking back at a selection of art from the first issue, including the cover, some thumbnail layouts, and grey tones and inks for the interior art!

OUTCAST BY KIRKMAN & AZACETA is available in two softcover volumes (VOL. 1: A DARKNESS SURROUNDS HIM and VOL. 2: A VAST AND UNENDING RUIN) and ongoing single issues.
