Film director, artist, writer, and producer Todd McFarlane is widely recognized as one of the most influential comic book creators of the last two decades, McFarlane is best known as the creator of Spawn, co-founder and partner of the creator-owned publishing company, Image comics. That title’s hugely popular 1992 debut sold an amazing 1.7 million copies – an unprecedented feat in independent comics. A whirlwind of growth and expansion followed: more comics, action figures, film and award-winning animation.
In May 1992, McFarlane’s own title, Spawn, debuted. The book sold 1.7 million copies, a still unsurpassed record for an “independent” comic book series. The comic became an Emmy Award-winning animated series on HBO and a live-action feature film from New Line Cinema that grossed $100 million.
In 1995, McFarlane introduced McFarlane Toys, an international award-winning company and one of America’s top action figure manufacturers. He reshaped the collectibles market with highly detailed and realistic action figures based on pop culture and cult horror icons from movies, TV, music, comic books and video games. 2015 Marquee lines including AMC’s The Walking Dead The Walking Dead and Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead Comic, HBO’s Game of Thrones, HALO and Assassin Creed video games, as well as the officially licensed teams of the NFL, NBA, and MLB.
