Emerging from the British small press, Kieron Gillen first came to wider attention with his collaboration with artist Jamie McKelvie, PHONOGRAM, published by Image. A perfect parasite, when part of the ecosystem of this great publisher, he has been impossible to remove. His further work for Image includes two more volumes of Phonogram, Revisionist Spartan Epic THREE with Ryan Kelly and Jordie Bellaire and the award-winning THE WICKED + THE DIVINE with Jamie McKelvie and Matt Wilson, which is presently being developed for Universal Television. Away from Image, he'd written for other companies, including Marvel (Young Avengers, Star Wars: Darth Vader, Journey Into Mystery, Iron Man, Uncanny X-men) and Avatar (Uber, Mercury Heat). In a previous life, he was an award-winning game critic, and co-founder of popular PC Games site, Rock Paper Shotgun. So, yes, he played games for a living, and when he got bored of that, decided to write comics. He is not allowed to speak to the children of his more conventional ambitious friends. They're afraid he'll give them ideas. This is a foolish thing to worry about. Kieron jealousy hordes all his ideas and sells them for coins.
