I'd have rather seen him keep doing the funny-animal thing. |
I dunno... I can't argue with art like that. At least, not in a book I can't read.
The detail there is fucking incredible. Though, it's got nothing on that "Art of Tekkonkrinkeet" book I was looking at the other day. THe pencil art one? Fuck. That's some of the most detailed shit I've ever seen. |
Is that the movie art book? |

Oh... yeah. There's two of them. One's just the amazing pencil art, and the other's the full digital painted backgrounds. I think there's some character stuff in there as well, bnut it didn't register with me. I was all caught up in the pencil art... the world building there is fantastic. The detail... it should have been a bigger book.
Some previews here: http://store.animebooks.com/teartboshkib.html
Don't get me wrong, either; the white books is great, too: http://store.animebooks.com/teartboshkiw.html
Tekkonkinkreet is a hard word for me to spell. I'm a bit dyslexic and it just fucks with me to no end. It's like the spelling version of a school yard bully. It just sits there taunting me... knowing that I'll have to google it in order to spell it right. |

Is it wrong to love this story?
A game of Magic: The Gathering turned violent when pranksters mooned a comics shop in Bellingham, WA and vigilante justice went too far, news sources are reporting.
The tragic incident began when three walked into Access Comics, in Bellingham, in an intoxicated state. The three were asked to leave by owner Lanny Wolfe as they were interrupting the game with their antics. The trio left, but came back and mooned the people in the store. Unfortunately, the pressure of their buttocks against the front window of the store caused the glass to break, and an even more unfortunate series of events was to unfold.
Two of the players, aged 19 and 42, took after the mooners. They were armed with a baseball bat. What followed was brutal. One of the victims suffered a broken orbital bone, and another is in serious condition with a life-threatening skull fracture.
Holy shit! They gathered magic all up in those guys's asses! Violent Bad-asses: the Gathering.
Who brings a baseball bat to a Magic: the Gathering game? "You make a move for my Red Gelatinous Cube +5 card, and I will break your fucking kneecaps."
Men ages 19 and 42, playing at 2 am on a Saturday night. What kind of underground fight club Magic the Gathering games go on at comic shops at 2 in the morning?? It's a whole world of violent nerd bloodsport I've never been initiated in...
We need to get our kids out of late-night Magic: the Gathering Games and into safer, less violent environments like bars, cockfights, strip clubs, roller-derbies.
Pikachu choo-choo-choo-choosed to beat them savagely with bats. Is that Magic? Pokemon? Whatever-- same shit.
Oh: the bat was in the trunk of one of their cars. Oh shit: "The bat actually got broken while one of the individuals was being struck," Felmley said.
When they're in jail, how are they going to tell this story to the other inmates? Like: without getting raped. I'm guessing they leave out parts of the story, when they're telling Joe the Rapist or Paul the Arson or Eddie and the Cruisers.
This site wins: There’s no word if the baseball bat gave +2 Dumbass to the wielders.
Of all the ways to get the shit kicked out of you. This is one of them.
Seriously, though: one of the victim's about to die, and the bat-guys face possible life in prison. So... that's less funny but... haha: fantasy card games are nerdy...? _________________ 2 Live Crew. |

Holy shit!
In Bellingham, no less. Fuck.
Okay... so I'm watching the video, right? The sister of one of the accused says the two Magic guys were "just trying to follow the men to help the police... and use the bat as self defense."

wait, so the sister was there? How does she know anything? |

This list mostly means nothing to me, because, uh, I don't live in Japan, but here's the list of creators decided on thus far for the AX english anthology:
| Quote: | Akino Kondo
Minami Shinbo
Shinichi Abe
Namie Fujieda
Mitsuhiko Yoshida
Yuichi Kiriyama
Osamu Kanno
Shigehiro Okada
Yunosuke Saito
Yeong Choi
Kazuichi Hanawa
Yoshihiro Tatsumi
|
Anybody know anything about any of them beside Tatsumi? I've got to say I'm pretty excited for this book. |

Congratulations to Ryan Cody and co.
Universal has paid mid-six-figures for the movie rights to an upcoming Viper Comics graphic novel titled "Villains" and tapped Matt Jennison and Brent Strickland to pen the adaptation. Sean Bailey is producing via his Idealogy banner.
The graphic novel, by Adam Cogan and Ryan Cody, puts super bad guys center stage. The plot, told from the baddies' perspective, follows a young man who is failing at life and finds purpose when he meets a Svengali-style villain who takes him under his wing.

Missed it before: this post from Felipe Smith on Peepo Choo, his series in Morning 2. 40-60 pages a month; some images of the art. _________________ 2 Live Crew. |

House Next Door's started a new column for comics criticism. The first entry was a little stuffy, but this 3rd one's all about videogames, Ellis, superhero comics, fan relationships with superhero comics, videogame criticism, etc. It's all over the map, in the nicest of ways-- a nice piece of work. If you like reading that sort of thing.
House Next Door and This Recording are the only two essay-type blogs I have on my bookmarks toolbar.
EDIT: That essay links to this blog of videogame criticism, which is also really pretty good if you're in the mood for an All Criticism Friday. _________________ 2 Live Crew. |

Is it wrong that I'm more excited for the second mini series than the movie?
Congrats, Ryan and Co. |

Well I hope you can contain that excitement, the 2nd volume is a long ways off (as in I have only a handful of pages done). Hopefully next year though. Thanks for checking out the book though! |

| Oh sure, that's not a problem... I'm just saying I like comics more than movies about comics. |

I just saw a preview of TEX on Moon Knight, and while it's pretty classic Tex, it left a lot to be desired. I dunno, maybe 'desired' is the wrong word.
Even the coloring has the look of old Ghost Rider, but... the anatomy doesn't have that exaggerated look that I loved about his older work. Or something. Maybe I just don't like Moon Knight. |
