Michael Turner (1971-2008)
Michael Turner died last Friday, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was only 37, and his passing cast a pall over the weekend for everyone who knew him.
Mike got his start at Image, working for Marc Silvestri’s Top Cow Productions before striking out on with own with Aspen MLT. He drew covers for Marvel and DC and was popular with the fans. I think for most of us, though –close friends and acquaintances alike – the thing we’re going to miss the most is Mike. His body of work is there for all to see, but it was his strength of character, his relentlessly positive attitude, even in the midst of adversity, that will ultimately stick with us.
Mike was incredibly passionate about his work, and even more so about his friends. It seems almost trite to distill someone’s essence into five words, but it’s true nonetheless: Mike was a great guy.
